Sandra closed the folder.

I told her.
She stared.
Then looked again.
Then checked the numbers a second time.
“With interest?”
I nodded.
Her eyebrows rose.
“That’s enough to bankrupt him.”
For the first time since entering the office, I felt something close to peace.
Not revenge.
Not satisfaction.
Certainty.
At eleven o’clock we drove to the house.
