Vanessa looked horrified.
Daniel pointed toward the front row.
“The most important seat in this building belongs to my mother.”
Nobody argued.
Nobody could.
Because everyone knew he was right.
Then something unexpected happened.
The principal stepped away from the podium.
He walked down the stage stairs himself.
Crossed the floor.
And stopped in front of me.
“Mrs. Brooks.”
I looked up.
The principal smiled warmly.
“I believe you’re sitting in the wrong place.”
More than one person laughed softly.
