Eli shook his head.

“I’m proud because she’s brave.”

The room fell silent.

Then he added:

“Anybody can wear stars. Not everybody protects people.”

I couldn’t stop the tears that time.

Because after everything that happened, after all the ranks and titles and awards, my son understood something many adults never do.

Honor isn’t what hangs on your chest.

It’s what lives in your character when nobody thinks you matter.

And that lesson turned out to be worth far more than any medal I had ever earned.
