If You Live Alone, Groceries Aren’t Always Cheaper

The Problem With Grocery Math When You Live Alone

Here’s something nobody seems to mention when they tell you how much cheaper groceries are.

You still have to buy the package.

If I want chicken for dinner, I don’t get to walk into the grocery store and say:

“Hello. I’d like exactly one portion of chicken, please.”

I buy a package.

If I want eggs, I don’t necessarily get three eggs.

I buy a carton.

If I want bread, I don’t buy two slices.

I buy a whole loaf.
