Outside, the twins walked beside me down the courthouse steps.
“You did it, Grandma!” George shouted, hugging me.
“No,” I said softly. “We did it.”
Jeffrey turned to Sarah.
“Thank you,” he said quietly.
She smiled nervously. “You boys deserved the truth.”
I stepped closer to her.
“You did it, Grandma!”
“Thank you for finding us five years ago,” I said. “You could’ve stayed silent.”
“I tried,” Sarah admitted. “But the nightmares wouldn’t stop. I needed to make things right.”
I squeezed her hand. “You did.”
George tilted his head. “Wait, you knew Grandma already?”
Sarah nodded.
“I found her five years earlier,” she explained. “I told her everything I remembered about that night.”
“You could’ve stayed silent.”
