He shrugged.
“I watched people treat you terribly.”
His voice softened.
“And somehow you never became cruel.”
Tears burned my eyes again.
“You noticed that?”
“Of course.”
He smiled.
“Most people only see what’s on someone’s face.”
His gaze briefly touched my birthmark.
“I wanted to know what was behind it.”
The gym suddenly felt very quiet.
Very small.
Very honest.
I looked down.
“I spent years wishing this birthmark would disappear.”
