The words barely registered.
“What does that mean?”
Arthur smiled again.
This time the smile looked dangerous.
“It means they committed fraud.”
For the first time all night, hope appeared in Lena’s eyes.
Small.
Fragile.
But there.
Arthur pointed toward a signature near the bottom.
“See this?”
She nodded.
“The amendment adding the penalty clause was filed three years ago.”
“Yes.”
“You never signed it.”
“I know.”
